SOUTH WEST FREEWAY PLANNING STUDY
Client: Main Roads WA
Busselton, WA
Several access strategies and intersection options were identified, each with their impacts and restrictions, which will form part of MRWA’s multi-criteria assessment process to determine the most suitable options available to upgrade the section of Bussell Highway to a freeway standard.
The biggest challenge on this project was the timelines for completion. At the time WML was fully engaged on other projects with committed delivery dates, however we were able to produce this work by doing longer hours on a daily basis to accommodate this client’s needs. This demonstrates WML’s commitment to clients and our ability to adjust and respond when projects like this come around.
WML was engaged by MRWA to prepare the Planning Study for the proposed South West Freeway section between Boyanup Road West and Sues Road on Bussell Highway. This section lies between the proposed Bunbury Outer Ring Road (BORR) and the proposed
Busselton Outer Bypass (BOB) which forms part of the plan to upgrade Forrest Highway from Pinjarra Road to east of Busselton. The Planning Study is fundamental to the process of determining the best option available to upgrade the existing highway to a freeway and takes the following into account
- Environmental impact;
- Regional planning schemes;
- Network performance and safety;
- Social impact;
- Maintaining access to existing infrastructure; and
- Intersection types.
