BERTH 5 WAPRES SHIP LOADER GROUND INVESTIGATION

4 new trestles will be placed adjacently to the existing trestles to alter the height at the beginning of the conveyor. WML undertook the investigation using in-house rotary borehole drilling and hand-auger techniques, with in-situ testing, monitoring well installation and groundwater sampling.
Ground conditions at the site consisted of 3m of dredged spoil placed in the early 1970’s, underlain by soft alluvial clays and very loose to medium dense alluvial sands to 12m depth. This was underlain by stiff clay layer to between 13 and 15m depth then weathered basalt.
WML was engaged by WAVE to undertake a geotechnical investigation to provide parameters for detailed design in upgrading the existing WAPRES woodchip ship loader to be able to carry grain from the proposed Bunge grain silos nearby
