Shire of Coolgardie
Kambalda Flood Study
WML was engaged by the Shire of Coolgardie to undertake the design of a new floodway outlet for the BP Dam in Kambalda West.
Project Description

The design was modelled in HEC-RAS and a sensitivity analysis completed to determine what the maximum peak flow is that the new weir would be able to handle. The design was completed on the basis of a previous AECOM waterways report that indicated the 100year ARI flood event peak flow.
This determined that the allowed 500mm freeboard could accommodate more than double the 100 year ARI peak flow.
The design included a downstream structure to initiate a hydraulic jump during peak flows in order to reduce the water velocity on the downstream rock protection.
