Project Description

WML was engaged by Bunge Australia undertake the design of the foundations and civil works for their proposed grain terminal, at Berth 5, within the Bunbury Inner Harbour.
Ground conditions at the site consisted of 3m of dredged spoil placed in the early 1970’s, underlain by soft alluvial clays and very loose to medium dense alluvial sands to 12m depth. This was underlain by stiff clay layer to between 13 and 15m depth then weathered basalt.
Following a review of various piling options, WML selected segmental precast driven piles for the proposed development, with full tensile capacity, driven to virtual refusal in the underlying basalt. On behalf of the client, WML went out to select tender, with Wagstaff Piling from Brisbane, being chosen as the piling contractor.
